OBJECTIVES : The aim of this study is to demonstrate medical professionals’ opinion about integration of EBM discipline into medical curriculum. Evidence is necessary in medicine. For medical professionals is important to have the appropriate searching skills, in order to find the best available evidence in their daily practice. EBM is a discipline that will provide them with tools useful in the management of patient.

METHODS : The survey was conducted among (311) medical professionals included physicians, dentists, nurses, midwives, and physiotherapists. A questionnaire was used in order to achieve the purpose of the study. All participated anonymously and voluntarily. In this paper we include survey results information, covering the application of EBM in medical professionals daily practice and demographic characteristics.

RESULTS : Completed questionnaires were received from 311 medical professionals. Of the respondents 38% were nurses, 36% physicians, 12% dentists, 12% midwives, and 3% physiotherapists. According to the respondents, 33% of the questions that arise in their every day practice are questions related to therapy, 28% questions related to diagnosis, 17% to prognosis, 17% to etiology and 4% answered other clinical questions. It is interesting the answer to the question related to the resources used to access medical information. In daily basis 30% of the medical professionals used internet in order to access medical information, 29% use information from their colleagues, 15% information from TV, 10% medical information resources, 7% of them use newspaper and magazines, 5% specialized printed materials, 1% seminars and conferences, and finally 2% other resources.

CONCLUSIONS : Analysis of the data demonstrates the need of integration EBM discipline in medical education. Experienced medical professionals address clinical questions, which need to be based on the current best evidence, in order to optimally, treat patients. EBM helps, health providers to make an efficient and effective medical literature searching and answer these questions.
