Description

The development and use of Open-Source Models (OSM) promises to increase the transparency and efficiency of health economic modelling endeavors. However, the number of open-source health economic models remains low. A recent survey of the ISPOR OSM Special Interest Group identified several barriers and opportunities for the development of OSM. However, little has been discussed in the literature on which barriers to OSM are most relevant for different stakeholder groups and how different stakeholders would address these barriers.

Therefore, this webinar attempts to address this knowledge gap by bringing together stakeholders from different professional backgrounds (health technology assessment agency, pharmaceutical industry, and academia). At the start of the webinar, an online polling system will be used to obtain insights into the background of the audience (e.g., professional background, experience with OSM). Next, the speakers will present their views on the most important barriers to OSM for their profession and discuss how to address these and increase the transparency and efficiency of health economic models in general. After the stakeholders’ presentations, the moderator will foster a discussion between panelists concerning the importance of the different barriers to OSM and their approaches to address these. During this discussion, alternative methods to increase the transparency and efficiency of health economic models will also be brought forward. The floor will also be open to questions and suggestions from the audience on (how to address) the barriers to OSM.

Learning Objectives

  • What is Open Source Modeling (OSM) and why has its uptake been limited?
  • What are barriers to the development and use of OSM and strategies to overcome these barriers according to different stakeholders (e.g., government, academia, industry)?
  • What are the most promising strategies for optimizing the use of OSM and what are the next steps in implementing them?
