This interactive short course is designed for professionals with a basic understanding of health technology assessment (HTA) who seek to deepen their knowledge and skills in evaluating interventions for rare diseases. Participants will gain an appreciation of the unique challenges that rare diseases pose for HTA due to limited evidence, small patient populations, and high treatment costs. The session will integrate discussions on the methodological challenges of HTA in rare disease with insights from prior submissions (NICE reviews). Attendees will gain an understanding of how policy and the role of advocacy can support the evaluation process. A breakout session will be part of this course to better deepen the understanding of concepts and challenge around the issues faced by HTA in rare disease.
