Value assessment frameworks have evolved, yet many fall short of adapting to the evolving needs of different therapy areas and capturing the full return on investment (ROI) of innovative medicines. That ROI spans from health outcomes to wider benefits for patients, healthcare professionals (HCPs), systems, and societal progress on public health targets. This gap is relevant for long-acting therapies and others that enhance adherence, reduce treatment burden and support HCPs in tailoring care. As health systems and governments face budget pressures, workforce shortages and growing demand, a broader view of value is needed to inform funding decisions. This symposium will explore how modern therapies can deliver benefits beyond conventional outcomes – from quality of life and engagement in care to payer-relevant impacts such as effectiveness, persistence, healthcare resource use and productivity – and how capturing broader value elements can move from concept into practice in pricing & reimbursement decisions. The session will open with a presentation framing how most conventional frameworks remain narrow in scope, constraining both innovation incentives and public health returns, and why change is needed. A patient perspective will emphasize choice and treatment compatibility with daily life as necessities for adherence, persistence, and equity. A policymaker perspective will highlight the importance of addressing system pressures and the role of adherence-improving therapies in sustaining care delivery. A payer/HTA perspective will explore how broader, societal perspectives can be incorporated into pricing & reimbursement processes and contribute to enhanced decision-making. An academic perspective will review approaches and best practices across markets to show how broader value can be assessed. The symposium will close with an interactive panel Q&A, examining how to bridge evidence gaps, support implementation across health systems, and strengthen pricing & reimbursement frameworks to drive real-world impact.
