OBJECTIVES The health of individual or population is determined by genetic combination and modified by social, physical environment and cultural, social behaviors . The spread of drug use, the frequent association of crack and cocaine with violence are current challenges that go beyond the limits of health care . We analyzed the costs of in patient regarding their hospitalization criteria and the discharge in order to add some data for further decisions making related to this matter. METHODS We analyzed 510 cases of psychiatric hospitalizations during one year ( 2017 ) and only male gender . Of 445 (87.25%) cases of voluntary hospitalization; 52 (10.19%) cases of involuntary hospitalization and 13 (2.54%) cases of compulsory hospitalization was found . Others data like comorbity , subgroup of responder versus non responder for the treatment, numbers of rehospitalizations still on the data bank for further analisys . RESULTS The hospitalization`s period, within 1 to 15 days ( GROUP A ) totaled 69 (13.52%) patients ( 200,00 USD per day) media(m) of 8 days x 69 patients x 200,00 =110.400,00 USD ; ( GROUP B ) 16 to 30 days totaled 51 (10%) = (m) of 23 days x 51 patients x 200,00 = 234.600 USD ; stay of 31 to 90 days, the time recommended in the therapeutic program, ( GROUP C ) totaled 374 (73.33%) = (m) of 60.5 days x 374 patients x 200,00 = 4.525.400 USD and patients whose hospitalization period extended to more than 90 days ( GROUP D ) were 16 (3.13%) = ~ 100 days x 16 patients x 200,00 = 320.000 USD . CONCLUSIONS The most important treatment group spent 3x more than others . Most of them achieved the therapeutic program by time recommendation . Further studies needs in order to add decisions making data.
