COST OF ILLNESS ANALYSIS- COMPARISON OF DRUG THERAPY COSTS FOR PATIENTS WITH MALIGNANT NEOPLASMS IN MOSCOW. MORTALITY ANALYSIS.

OBJECTIVES According to experts from the Moscow City Health Department, breast cancer (BC), prostate cancer (PC), melanoma (MEL), malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lung (BN), and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are the most costly oncological diseases. The aim of our study was to estimate treatment costs of Moscow budget for each of these malignant neoplasms and to compare their mortality.

METHODS To estimate the annual costs of drug therapy in Moscow for patients with BC, PC, MEL, BN and RCC we have developed an analytical model, relying on data from Drug Supply Centre for 2018, as well as literature sources.

RESULTS There was estimated that the most costly type of cancer is BC (26,9% of total costs of cancer treatment), then PC (14,8%), MEL (13,4%), BN (9,5%), RCC (8,1%). We have also calculated, that number of patients with BC – 31,3% among of all patients with malignant neoplasms who received treatment, PC – 19,2%, MEL – 1,8%, BN – 5%, RCC – 2,6%. We have also analyzed mortality of these types of cancer for BC (6%), PC (4,1%), MEL (9,2%), BN (50,3%), RCC (13%).

CONCLUSIONS The conducted analysis shows that the most expensive is treatment of patients with BC (26,9% of budget costs for therapy of 31,3% of patients), whereas MEL takes 13,4% of budget costs for therapy of 1,8% of patients. In spite of high costs of BN therapy, these patients have the highest mortality (50,3%).
