OBJECTIVES:

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is now major public health issue which affects the socioeconomic differential in health. Low socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with both development and progression of CKD which is well reported in various health surveys done in the US and in few European countries. This study investigated the relationship between SES and risk factors among CKD.

  • To examine the socioeconomic status and prevalent risk factor among the (CKD) patients.
  • To understand and gain the extensive knowledge regarding the other causative factors.
  • To analyze the risk ratio between male and female.
METHODS:

This observational and descriptive study was conducted in medicine department of a government multi speciality hospital over a 6-month period. The sample size was taken with the help of Epi Info ver. 7.1 that come to be 250. Data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) ver. 25.

RESULTS:

The results was calculated by using one-way anova. In this present study, 154 males and 96 females are affected among the 250 patients. the status of patients including income, education, and professionals has generally affected the condition of CKD. There are number of risk factors which are responsible for CKD like Age, gender, BMI (body mass index), family history, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, glomerular disease (nephritis), nephrotoxic agents (NSAIDs, contrast agents and other), hyperlipidemia (on the basis of lipid profile), allograft and on USG basis also. In this study, we find out that DM (i.e. 202 (80.8%)) and HTN (i.e. 243 (97.2%)) are most of the Prevalent risk factors of CKD. The most of the patient having CKD belongs to the socioeconomic class (v) (i.e. 101 (40.0%)).

CONCLUSIONS:

We considered that patients with DM, HTN, and patients with class (V) were a high CKD risk population and males are having more risk of occurence of CKD then females.
