OBJECTIVES: To assess health related quality of life and disease distress in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using PROs as a measure. METHODS: This is a prospective observational study involving the assessment of patients who are visiting RMMCH with type 2 diabetes mellitus using PROs like DDS, PAM. The PROs are translated into local language and validated. Descriptive statistics, including numbers of patients, means, standard deviations, medians, minimums, and maximums, were provided for continuous variables RESULTS: A total of 48 patients were included in the study among whom 33 were male and 15 were female. out of 48 patients 8 were between 31-40 years, 11 were between 41-50 years, 22 were between 51-60 years and 7 were between 61-70 years of age. PAM leveling shows out of 48 patients : 11 patients fall under level 1,12 under level 2, 16 under level 3 and 9 under level 4. DDS scoring indicates the mean DDS scores are as follows, emotional burden-3.6, regimen related distress-3.1, physician related distress-2.8 and interpersonal distress is 2.1. Around 49% of patients are having increased blood sugar and HbA1c values ≥8%. CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that around 49% of patients are having increased HbA1c and blood sugar values and the PAM leveling suggests that they require better clinical interventions and lifestyle modifications. The DDS reports indicates moderate emotional burden and regimen related distress which suggests appropriate clinical care and support.
