Objectives: To evaluate the knowledge, attitude towards influenza vaccine and to determine the common barriers against vaccination among Malaysian pregnant women. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted for a period of 3 months from September to November 2017. A pre-tested self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Results: Among 386 respondents, a significant number (n=177, 45.9%) of participants were in the age range 25-29 followed by (n=104, 26.9%) the age range of 30-34. Overall 67 (17.3%) participants claimed to have received their annual influenza vaccine during pregnancy. Of the 319 (82.7%) respondents who were unvaccinated, 154 (78.2%) claimed that they have no medical indication for vaccination. A majority of the unvaccinated women n=168 (76%) agreed that they did not receive the vaccine as their family members/friends did not receive it either during their pregnancies. About n=136 (66.7%) of the unvaccinated women claimed that they do not know that an annual influenza vaccine should be taken during pregnancy. While more than half n=128 (61.5%) were concerned with the safety of vaccine to the baby. There was n=105 (50.5%) respondents who cited the absence of a recommendation from their healthcare professionals as a reason for not taking the vaccination. Conclusion: Most of the pregnant women emphasize on the other areas of pregnancy and pay minimal attention towards vaccination. They are influenced by the non-vaccinated peers and pay no heed towards medical complications associated with the pregnancy. Motivation and education of healthcare providers to help persuade the public towards prompt vaccination is the need of the hour.
