OBJECTIVES: Some studies have shown that hip fat is, in part, a healthy "good" fat, a protective factor for some diseases. This study is to find out the relationship between hip circumference (HC) and quality of life (QOL) and further to explore the effect of hip fat on health.

METHODS: RESULTS: (1) Compared with Q1, the Q4 group had significantly higher score in the mental component summary(MCS) (P<0.01), and social functioning (P<0.05), role-emotional (P<0.05) and mental health (P<0.01) dimensions. (2) Multiple logistic regression showed that: after excluding confounders, compared with Q1, Q2 group have a significant low risk of bodily pain damage (OR=0.68, 95%CI=0.47-0.97; Q4 group have a significant low risk of role-physical (OR=0.64, 95CI%=0.43-0.95) and mental health (OR=0.63, 95CI%=0.42-0.93) dimensions.

CONCLUSIONS: The QOL of respondent with various hip circumference was different. Higher HC are related to better QOL, especially in the mental domain.
