RESPONSIVENESS OF VISION ‘BOLT-ON’ TO EQ-5D-3L AND EQ-5D-5L IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING CATARACT SURGERY

OBJECTIVES: Addition of an item on vision impairment, Vision ‘bolt-on’, was found to improve the sensitivity of EQ-5D-3L in cross-sectional studies. We aimed to evaluate the impact of vision ‘bolt-on’ to EQ-5D-3L and EQ-5D-5L on their responsiveness, and compare their responsiveness with SF-6D and HUI3 in a longitudinal study. METHODS: RESULTS: The d for ‘bolt-on’ EQ-5D-3L and EQ-5D-3L indices were 0.509 and 0.054; the SRM was 0.458 and 0.039; and the F-statistic was 13.2 and 0.1, respectively. The d for ‘bolt-on’ EQ-5D-5L and EQ-5D-5L indices were 0.700 and 0.224; the SRM was 0.709 and 0.207; and the F-statistic was 31.7 and 2.7, respectively. The responsiveness of ‘bolt-on’ EQ-5D-3L was better than SF-6D, but slightly worse than HUI3 and VF-12; the responsiveness of ‘bolt-on’ EQ-5D-5L was better than all other measures. CONCLUSIONS: It appears that a vision ‘bolt-on’ increase the responsiveness of both EQ-5D-3L and EQ-5D-5L, leading to greater magnitude in improved health outcomes after cataract surgery. The EQ-5D vision bolt-on might have comparable responsiveness as other patient-reported outcome measures containing items on vision function in assessing cataract surgery.
