PURPOSE: Randomised control trials (RCTs) are the ‘gold standard’ for measuring efficacy and for providing a source of evidence for health technology assessment (HTA). However, evidence from RCTs does not always translate well into real-world practice, as it focuses on restricted patient groups in ideal and highly controlled settings. In recent years, utilizing real-world data (RWD) has become increasingly relevant in decision making in order to bridge the gap between efficacy in trials and effectiveness in actual treatment settings. Despite this, limited guidance is currently available regarding the judicious use of RWD, especially for the purpose of assessing treatment cost-effectiveness. This workshop, led by speakers from clinical practice, pharmaceutical industry, academia and regulators, aims to provide insights and pragmatic advice for integrating RWD into evidence-based decision making. DESCRIPTION: This workshop will: (1) offer an overview of current challenges in using RWD in economic evaluations, (2) propose practical solutions by utilising various types of RWD to complement trial-based evidence, and (3) contextualize the utilization of RWD and trial-based evidence in decision modelling/making. Speakers will share their experience and showcase the development and implementation of proposed methods using case studies. The audience will be encouraged to share their perspectives, experience and concerns regarding the proposed solutions. Discussions with live polls around the topics about how to generate credible information from RWD will be facilitated. This interactive workshop will be relevant and informative for researchers, clinicians, policymakers and individuals interested in exploring the potential of RWD and its role in making better decisions.
