OBJECTIVES: To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of peginterferon for Chinese chronic hepatitis C patients. METHODS: The domestic chronic hepatitis C clinical trials adopting peginterferon published from 2004 to 2015 were retrieved, and SVR achieving rate was considered as clinical effective index to develop a Meta-analysis. RESULTS: Twenty pieces of valid literature were included  in Meta analysis screening from 198 pieces of literature, and the results showed RR=1.55, 95%CI was [1.33, 1.81], P<0.00001, Z=5.67, which proved the effectiveness of pegylated interferon was statistically higher than the normal interferon for Chinese patients. The SVR achieving rate between experimental group and control group was statistically different, among which the SVR achieving rate of the group adopting peginterferon α-2a (RR=1.67, 95%CI[1.43, 1.96], P<0.00001, Z=6.47) was statistically different while the group adopting peginterferon α-2b (RR=1.13, 95%CI[0.91, 1.39], P=0.26>0.05, Z=1.12) was not.The results of sensitivity analysis determined the robustness of the baseline results. CONCLUSIONS: Peginterferon greatly improves the SVR achieving rate for Chinese chronic hepatitis C patients. Furthermore, peginterferon α-2a shows better clinical effect and peginterferon α-2b shows better safety.
