OBJECTIVES: This study aims to review the economic burden in patients with schizophrenia in China. METHODS: A literature review was performed through CNKI, Wangfang, CQVIP, EMBASE and Medline databases to identify cost studies published between 2007 and 2016. Original cost studies of schizophrenia were included containing inpatient or outpatient costs. Information related to direct medical costs (inpatient bed charges, treatment costs, healthcare professionals and examinations), non-medical costs (accommodation, food, and transportation costs), and indirect costs (loss of productivity for patients and time required from family members) were extracted.
