OBJECTIVES: Vulvovaginal candidiasis’s (VVC) incidence accounts for 35% ~ 50% of vulvovaginitis; and VVC is able to be eradicated. Baofukang (1.74g/grain) and Langyi (0.5g/200 thousand IU/grain) are widely used in the treatment of VVC; there is much more substitutability between them. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency and safety of Baofukang and Langyi through systematic evaluation, and evaluate the economy of Baofukang and Langyi in the treatment of VVC to provide references for reasonable clinical prescription, pricing drugs and the cognition product value. METHODS: A cost-minimization analysis has been conducted to compare the economy of Baofukang with Langyi in the treatment of VVC from the perspective of the whole society. In the model, outcome on effectiveness was based on quantitative synthetic of Meta-analysis. And cost data were mainly from the published data and in combination with China’s practical situation. Single factor sensitivity analysis was conducted based on the change of effectiveness and prices. RESULTS: The effective rate of Baofukang was 91.58% when the treatment time was one course (7 days), and 87.65% when two; while Langyi’s was 93.86% when one course (6 days) and 96.63% when two. The recurrence rates were 10.24%,16.78%, respectively. When the changed medicine (used when Baofukang/Langyi failed in the treatment of VVC) was Miconazole Nitrate Vaginal Efferrescent Tablets, the total costs of Baofukang were $ 23.78(one course) and $ 27.70(two courses), and $ 23.92, $ 27.91 when clotrimazole suppositories. While Langyi’s were $ 46.52, $ 53.66 and $ 46.64, $ 53.72. CONCLUSIONS: Baofukang (one course) enjoyed the best economy, followed by Baofukang (two courses), Langyi (one course), Langyi (two courses). Therefore, Baofukang (one course) was cost-effective in contrast with the others.
