A COMPARISON OF EQ-5D-3L INDEX SCORES USING FOREIGN VALUE SETS FOR INDONESIAN SAMPLE WITH CERVICAL CANCER

OBJECTIVES: To examine the differences and agreements between the following 4 foreign value sets: Malaysian (MY), Singaporean (SG), Thai (TH), and UK in calculating EQ-5D-3L index score (utility) among Indonesian cervical cancer patients. METHODS: A sample of 87 cervical cancer patients was interviewed. The differences among the utility scores derived from four value sets were determined using Friedman test. Intra-class correlations coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman plots were used to test the agreement among the utility scores. Spearman’s rho correlation coefficients were used to assess convergent validity between utility scores and patient characteristics of socio-demographic and clinical data. With respect to known-group validity, Kruskal-Wallis test was employed to examine the differences in utility scores according to the cancer stages. RESULTS: The MY value set significantly yielded higher utility scores than the other 3 value sets. Utility scores obtained from SG, TH, and UK value sets had more agreements with each other than with the MY value set (ICCs and Bland-Altman plots tests results). The EQ-5D VAS had more agreement with utility obtained from MY value set than with the other value sets. As for the validity, the four value sets showed equivalent psychometric properties. CONCLUSIONS: In absence of Indonesian value set, the Malaysian value set was more preferable to be employed compared to the other value sets. Further study on development of Indonesian value set needs to be conducted.
