OBJECTIVES: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a chronic genetic disease characterized by thickening heart muscle, affects about 1 in 500 people. HCM symptoms are highly variable, complicating diagnosis and estimation of burden on patients' lives. This research explores the diagnostic process and symptoms in HCM patients. METHODS: An 80-question survey was distributed online to members of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association, an advocacy, education, and support group.
