OBJECTIVES: Efficacious DAAs have recently become available for HCV treatment, but their costs have posed challenges to access. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of patient characteristics (viral load, comorbidities, substance abuse, insurance type, and fibrosis score) on likelihood of receiving a DAA. METHODS: A multi-center chart review study of HCV patients was conducted in the US from January-August 2015. Physicians provided demographic, disease, and treatment data on treated and untreated HCV patients. A Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection (CHAID) analysis was conducted, with DAA treatment status (yes/no) as the dependent variable, and fibrosis score, viral load (<6M/>6M/not stated), insurance type (private/public/uninsured), and comorbidities (yes/no/not stated) as the independent variables.
