PURPOSE: The purpose of this workshop will be to discuss the opportunities eCOA provides in collecting patient-reported data from populations with physical or cognitive limitations. Using real-life examples, discussion leaders will reflect on opportunities and challenges associated with using eCOAs in these populations from the perspective of COA developers, eCOA providers and representatives from the pharmaceutical industry.
DESCRIPTION: eCOA is now a widely accepted method of data collection in clinical trials. Challenges exist around the collection of COA data from certain patient populations, challenges which the unique properties of eCOA can overcome, allowing for insight into the patient experience from populations that might otherwise be underrepresented in COA research. In this workshop we will provide an overview of the opportunities for patient empowerment that eCOA provides in a variety of diverse patient populations, including patients with psychiatric disorders and dexterity issues and in geriatric and paediatric patients. We will also highlight the challenges that implementing eCOA in these populations can create. We will talk through some of the electronic solutions that have been implemented to support these populations and provide real life patient experiences from a number of studies and from the literature. Workshop attendees will be asked to participate in exercises centered on identifying challenges and generating ideas for eCOA solutions suitable for use in each population. Time will be provided at the end of the workshop for questions and discussion.
