COLORECTAL CANCER PATIENT SATISFACTION WITH THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY TREATMENT IN A HIGH SPECIALTY UNIT AT INSTITUTO MEXICANO DEL SEGURO SOCIAL

Multidisciplinary treatment in colorectal cancer is a scientific and therapeutic challenge, and patient expectative is important to achieve a high quality treatment. The patient satisfaction is important to evaluate the health services in a public health institution. OBJECTIVES:  Determine the colorectal patient satisfaction level when they are treated in a High Specialty Unit at Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. METHODS:  Were studied 150 patients with colorectal cancer treated in a High Specialty Unit and their satisfaction level with the treatment was evaluated through EORTC IN-PATSAT32. RESULTS: Satisfaction scores obtained through the questionnaire were: Doctor´s interpersonal communication skills 92.47 (±17.09), Doctor´s technical skills 92.97 (±16.84), doctor’s skills to give information 93.42 (±15.43), availability of the doctors 93.07 (±17.49), nurses’ interpersonal communication skills 90.26 (±17.59), nurses’ technical skills 88.25 (±20.25), nurses’ skills to give information 82.13 (±21.06), availability of the nurses 80.17 (±21.63), staff kindness 87.85 (±18.22), waiting time 78.31 (±24.16), access to the hospital areas 79.97 (±23.44), information exchange 83.13 (±22.99), cleanliness and comfort 71.08 (±27.84), and general satisfaction 82.93 (±19.86). CONCLUSIONS: This results shows us opportunity areas and enhance possibilities to provide health services in a public health institution for a group of patients with colorectal cancer
