OBJECTIVES : Optimization of local treatment of generalized periodontitis (GP) for patients with chronic hepatitis C (HCV).

METHODS : Comparative analysis of dental indexes (PBI; PDI) dynamics for two patient groups with HCV: main (25 person – modified treatment, additionally provide immune-modulating and hepatic-protective activity) and comparison (23 person – based treatment) before treatment and one month after treatment of GP. Each group was divided into two subgroups depending on diagnoses – GPI (probing depth 0-3mm) and GPII (probing depth 4-6mm).

RESULTS

: Before treatment, level of periodontal indexes of patients in corresponding subgroups of main and comparison group did not differ significantly (p> 0.05). One month after treatment:

Values of РВІ index significantly decreased in all subgroups. Comparison of РВІ indices showed great РВІ decrease in main group. In subgroup with GPI in main group, РВІ decreased by 37,31% (from 2.01 ± 0.07 to 1.26 ± 0.02), in subgroup with GPI of comparison group – by 18,91% (from 2.01 ± 0.07 to 1.63 ± 0.02). In subgroups with GPII, reduction rates were 53,33% (from 3,30 ± 0,08 to 1,54 ± 0,01) in main group and 42,38% (3.28 ± 0.08 to 1.89 ± 0.02) in comparison group.

For main group patients decrease of PDI was significantly higher than in comparison group (p <0.05). In patient subgroups with GPI index PDI decreased by 54.07% (2.70 ± 0.13 to 1.24 ± 0.04) in main group and by 47.55% (2.65 ± 0.11 to 1.39 ± 0 , 02) in comparison group; in subgroups with GPII - by 40,87% (4,16 ± 0,16 to 2,46 ± 0,01) and 34,72% (4,09 ± 0,17 to 2,67 ± 0,01), respectively.

CONCLUSIONS : After treatment, periodontal indexes were significantly lower in all subgroups of main group than in comparison group (p<0.05). This indicates positive effect of modified treatment use for patients with HCV.
