OBJECTIVES : To analyze neonatal morbidity in premature children from mothers affiliated to a public health insurer in Colombia. METHODS : A cross-sectional ecological study was performed with the births clinical records during the years 2016-2017 from the billing database of a public health insurer. We included 981 preterm children (born before week 37) distributed in 12 departments and 180 municipalities. RESULTS : CONCLUSIONS : The highest percentage of perinatal complications corresponds to children of adolescent women. Improving living conditions of pregnant women and reducing pregnancy rate in adolescents, as well as design and implementation of prevention programs, will prevent the morbidity that occurs in neonates.
