OBJECTIVES : This study aimed to identify determinants of EQ-5D health states valuation ellicited using the time trade-off approach METHODS : This analysis was conducted using the dataset obtained in the second wave of the Brazilian EQ-5D-3L Valuation Study. This dataset is composed by a representative probabilistic sample of 5774 individual, with ages varying from 18-64 years. The Brazilian tariff utility values were used as the dependent variable in a mixed-effects linear model. We selected the model with the lowest Bayesian information criterion. Beyond the EQ dimensions a set of forced variables ( and a set of 14 variables were analysed. RESULTS : The manual selected variables for the final model were: VAS, believe in God, to have children and age in years. All the selected variables were statical significative and have a positive effect on valuation process. The major influence was VAS, and to believe in God with 0,11 utility units for “yes” if “believe in God” parameter and 0.11 utility units for for each unit of VAS. Age have an impact of 0,019 utility unit for each 10 years interval. Having children had a small effect (0.0338 utilities for “yes”) CONCLUSIONS : We found an positive effect of faith. People who believe in God or after life are less to tradetime. Self-evaluation by VAS was compatible with the literature. Age had an different pattern from most authors, with olders giving more value than youngers to the same health state, but with a small effect, with some possible teorical explanations: life expectancy shorter than 10 years or adptation to chronic health condictions. Another studied individual factors with effects in the literature had no impact on Brazilian valuation.
