OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to test the effect of neuromuscular training program on balance skills, dynamic balance, joint stability and strain muscular power development.

METHODS: 14 junior female handball players were involved in the study (N=14). The mean age for the sample was 12.5 years. Flamingo test, Star Excursion Balance test (SEBT), Y-Balance test and Plank test were used. We performed assessments before and after the six-week-long exercise program in the preparation period before the season in 2017. Data were processed by Microsoft Excel 2013. Significance level was p=0.05.

RESULTS: The results of the Flamingo test showed significant improvement (p=0.000006). SEBT showed significant improvement in case of both extremities (p<0.05). The findings of the Y-Balance test also showed significant improvement in different directions (right upper limb: medial p=0.0004; superior lateral p=0.01; inferior-lateral p=0.000002; left upper limb: medial p=0.000007; superior- lateral p=0.00008; Inferior -lateral p=0.0001). High degree of improvement was found in the results of Plank test (p=0.00076).

CONCLUSIONS: The six-week-long exercise program is extremely suitable for the development of balance, joint stability and strain muscle power. Due to its effect, neuromuscular control develops which is the key factor in the prevention of sports injuries.
