A REAL-WORLD DATA ANALYSIS EVALUATING THE TIME TO GLYCEMIC CONTROL AFTER INITIATION OF BASAL INSULIN IN TYPE 2 DIABETIC PATIENTS

OBJECTIVES To determine the time to successful glycemic control after starting basal insulin (BI) in T2DM patients in a real-world setting. METHODS US electronic medical records (EMR) of T2DM (ICD-10 E11) patients age ≥18 years receiving their first BI therapy were analyzed using TriNetX Live, a federated global health research network. The time to reach ADA target glycemic control (defined as HbA1c ≤7%) was measured in response to treatment in 0-3, 3-6, 6-12, 12-24, and 24-36 month intervals from BI initiation. Success of glycemic control on BI was defined as a patient who achieved target HbA1c and did not have HbA1c >7% in the same or in any prior time interval. RESULTS CONCLUSIONS If glucose is not controlled early by BIs, then likelihood of success decreases as time passes. The findings in this real-world study conducted on electronic medical records (EMR) of a T2DM population from the TriNetX Live platform confirm the results of the recently published analysis conducted by a Sanofi and IBM Watson collaboration. Access to EMR data with an analytic platform efficiently generated valuable insights on the success of BI treatment response timelines in a real world T2DM population.
