OBJECTIVES: This study is aimed to adapt MYMOP into Chinese version (CMYMOP) and evaluate the application of CMYMOP in the syndrome of qi deficiency and blood stasis (SQDBS) and syndrome of phlegm and blood stasis (SPBS) in coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS: MYMOP was adapted into CMYMOP by forward-backward-forward translation strategy, culture equivalence evaluation and pilot testing against 30 patients. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of patients’ most painful symptoms, limited activities and medicine application were used for assessing the application of CMYMOP in the CHD fields of TCM. RESULTS: Sufficint translation version of CMYMOP was developed according to “Guidelines for the Process of Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Self-Report Measures”. The content of CMYMOP were two syptoms in the past two weeks, activity, wellbeing and medication application. From the CMYMOP qualitative and quantitative evaluation from patients with CHD, chest tightness and chest pain were more common and most painful symptoms and lasted more than 1 year for 60% of the patients. For the limited activities, walking, shopping, tai chi and climbing stairs were the most hopeful and negative activities for CHD patients. 70% of patients may take medicine and many still choosed Chinese medicine (such as Tongxinluo, compound Danshen dropping pill, etc.) for regular treatment. The scores of symptom one, limited activities, general health were three point or so. In terms of TCM syndrome, SPBS was higher than SQDBS in the morbidity of MI, hypertension and hyperlipidemia(p=0.002, 0.000, 0.025<0.05). SQDBS was more obvious than SPBS in the symptoms of weakness and breathless (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The methods of forward-backward-forward is applicable for the Chinesization of cross-culture questionnaire. CMYMOP was difficult to distinguish SPBS from SQDBS in the CHD. CMYMOP can be applied for a people-reported outcome and TCM-syndrome assessment instrument for CHD in TCM clinical practice.
