OBJECTIVES: The study explored the experiences and perception of lung cancer patients about the disease and its prevention in KPK Pakistan. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven registered lung cancer patients of the selected cancer setting of the country until the emergence of saturation point. By using a framework approach, thematic analysis was done for evaluating the data. RESULTS: On the basis of patient experiences about disease various parameters like knowledge, attitude and perception of the patients were identified. Barriers to timely diagnosis and treatment were highlighted. Disease prevention strategy and the quality of physician patient relationship were pointed on the basis of experiences of the patients. After experiencing the disease majority of the patients understand their disease but some showed negative attitude towards it. Some patients were having a threatening view of illness with poor physician-patient relationship. CONCLUSIONS: Measures should be made for improving awareness and by counselling session of the pharmacists. It can help in improving the quality of life and therapeutic compliance of the patients suffering from this enervating illness.
