Building trust in real-world evidence (RWE) remains as one of the highest priorities in the field of HEOR. Studies involving real-world data (RWD) can provide a broader understanding of healthcare technologies beyond the evidence generated from traditional randomized clinical trials (RCTs) alone. However, RWD studies are more vulnerable to confounding and other biases, thus making healthcare decision-makers reluctant to incorporate RWE in their policy decisions. Participants will be encouraged to introduce topics of interest to them for discussion, but potential topics include use of RWD to replicate, emulate, or extrapolate from RCTs; issues related to pre-registration of RWE study protocols, including incentives for registration; issues related to use of digital healthcare data; and evaluating or enhancing the research readiness of RW databases. The goal of this group discussion is to explore the challenges, opportunities, and the promise of the use of RWE in healthcare decision-making. Engage with your peers about their experiences, and discuss how the HEOR community can work towards building the credibility of RWE.
