OBJECTIVES

:
The objective of this study was to examine the HRQoL as measured by EQ-5D and investigate the factors that influence HRQoL on patients with lymphoma in China.

METHODS

:
Patients were recruited from a cross-sectional survey via the largest national lymphoma patient organization in China in 2019. EQ-5D-5L was employed to measure the HRQoL for patients with lymphoma. The utility score was calculated based on the Chinese population tariff. All descriptive analyses, including demographic characteristics, socio-economic status and HRQoL characteristics, were stratified by sex and age. Tobit regression model was used to investigate the influencing factors of HRQoL.

RESULTS

:
4,225 patients with 11 sub-types of lymphoma, from 30/34 provinces of China, were successfully recruited. 55.88% of them were female, 66.99% from urban area, and nearly 50% lived in East China (developed area). The mean age of respondents was 46.34 years, median income was 80,000 RMB/year and the average duration of disease was 3.59 years. 83.61% of male and 84.98% of female respondents reported having no problem on self-care respectively, followed by usual activities (74.46% and 73.55%). Only 26.43% (male) and 22.59% (female) of respondents indicated no problem on anxiety/depression. Female respondents scored higher on EQ-VAS score (67.92 vs. 67.72) than male, but lower on utility score (0.819 vs. 0.829). For the respondents with different sub-types of lymphoma, the mean utility score ranged between 0.715 (PC-ALCL) and 0.874 (Follicular lymphoma). Moreover, respondents who were highly educated, fully employed, living in developed area, with high income, no children and long duration of disease reported a significantly high EQ-VAS and utility score.

CONCLUSIONS

:
This is the first national-level survey using EQ-5D-5L to describe the HRQoL of patients with lymphoma in China. The results could enable us to understand the HRQoL of this population, and facilitate the resources allocation and service planning.
