PURPOSE: Multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) refers to making preference decisions over the available alternatives that are characterized by multiple, sometimes conflicting, attributes. To date, MCDA has been applied in the patient-level diagnosis and treatment decision context in the U.S. as well as the coverage and reimbursement decision context in ex-U.S. markets. There is a dearth of MCDA cases that aid U.S. coverage and reimbursement decisions. The ISPOR MCDA Emerging Good Practices Task Force published two guidance reports detailing the steps required to implement MCDA. The purpose of this workshop will be to educate and inform participants on feasible MCDA approaches towards a coverage and reimbursement decision aid. During the one-hour workshop, participants will gain and actively engage in the concept and implementation of an MCDA case example.

DESCRIPTION: This workshop will offer participants an understanding of MCDA beyond the recommendations in the field. Discussion leaders will draw from MCDA task force guidelines and real-world experiences that gear practical understanding of MCDA. Dr. Kalo will begin with an overview and definition of MCDA and its use in the international health policy arena. Dr. Campbell will present a therapeutic case example with criteria for audience participants to consider including net health benefit, prevalence, disease severity, economic burden, and others. Dr. McQueen will collect real-time answers on the importance of the criteria presented in the case and facilitate a discussion on additional criteria from the audience using ISPOR polling software. Finally, all three discussion leaders will facilitate the weighting of the criteria using ISPOR polling software and present in real-time the results of the MCDA experiment for the therapeutic case example. After engaging in a real-time MCDA experiment, discussion leaders and participants will share how the MCDA process and findings can be used in U.S. coverage and reimbursement decisions.
