OBJECTIVES

The aim is to determine the elegibility of the “quick disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand” (QuickDASH) as a patient reported outcome measure for Dupuytren´s disease (DD).

METHODS

Patients with DD (contracture>20º), palpable cord and treated with collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum (CCH) in three different Spanish Hospitals were included. A digital goniometer was used to measure the digital extension in each patient before and after treatment. The QuickDASH were self-administered by patients before and 30 days after treatment to measure health related quality of life.

RESULTS

From april 2016 to june 2017, 48 patients (51 joints) received one injection of CCH and 46 patients completed the study. The mean age was 66.1 (±1.1) and 83.7% were male. The mean correction, after the injection with CCH, for the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint was -26.67 degrees (95% CI: -32.70 to -20.65, p <0.001), and -23.39 degrees (95% CI: -29.60 to -17.18; p <0.001) for the interphalangeal joint (PIP). The measurement of the clinical results was made by calculating the difference between the final contraction degrees and the initial. The mean time between the administration of the CCH and the objective evaluation of the treatment were 34.6 days (SD: 8.8). The mean value of the QuickDASH significantly decreased from 26.80 (SD: 21.71) before treatment to 17.92 (SD: 18.05) after. The study showed a low correlation between, before and after treatment values of the QuickDASH and the improvement of mobility between the MCP and PIP joint, showing a low association between the values (r<0.2).

CONCLUSIONS

The scores obtained for QuickDASH in DD with CCH treatment did not correlate with the clinical results. The use of disease-specific questionnaires is recommended, although there are limitations with transcultural adaptations that restrict this possibility due to the lack of validity and reliability of the questionnaires.
