Study of the Pharmaceutical Market of Nootropic Medicines and Awareness of Pharmacists for the Pharmacotherapy of Cognitive Disorders During War Time in Ukraine

OBJECTIVES: In Ukraine, the number of people living in chronic stress due to the war is increasing. In 2023, more than 117,000 Ukrainians received psychological help in mental health centers. In 2023, over than 117000 Ukrainians took psychological care in the mental health centers

METHODS: marketing research, questioning, forming a sample of expert pharmacists, data analysis.

RESULTS: Optimizing pharmacotherapy of neurological disease needs complex therapy and it can be recommended nootropic drugs consist of neurotransmitters and antioxidant properties. We researched the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market has the registration of 156 trade names 12 countries that correspond to 17 INN as of March 2024. The research that 95 drugs are Ukrainian producers (24 manufacturers),61 licenses are foreign producers (20). It was established that the leaders among foreign producers are: Spain - 9.62%, Latvia and Italy (5.77%), Hungary - 5.13%. Preparations produced by Poland, Bulgaria and Turkey make up 0.64%.The research shows that citicoline and piracetam are 40 % in solutions and 35% in tablets. A questionnaire was also conducted among 125 pharmacists about their awareness of pharmacotherapy with nootropicdrugs. Pharmacists indicated that piracetam and phenylpiracetam are only presented by foreign producers reducing the availability of therapy, and pirithynol is missing in the market in 2023-2024. 88,9% need to renew knowledge of the theme of potential interactions, and 96% need to know if there are teratogenic or fetotoxic effects during using of nootropics by pregnant women.77,6% of interviewed pharmacists indicated that patients buy themselves biologically active additives that include gingo biloba, magnesium.

CONCLUSIONS: 90% of medicine drugs nootropics are monocomponent, therefore, there is a need to implement combined means in Ukraine that will have increasing economic availability. There is an informational need for pharmacists to renew knowledge due to neurological diseases for pharmaceutical care.There is an informational need for pharmacists to renew knowledge concerning neurological diseases for pharmaceutical care.
