OBJECTIVES: The public-private partnership (PPP) model has been amongst several proven health systems and policy research models, leading to better clinical outcomes with well-defined processes, cutting-edge technology, and quality data. The analytical challenges associated with complex oncology datasets presented the scope of the application of PPP in the oncology space.
METHODS: In February 2023, the United States government announced an initiative - "CancerX" to dovetail the objective of Cancer Moonshot of reducing cancer mortality by 50% in the next 25 years. This innovation accelerator programme focuses on improving cancer patient care coordination and communication through the development and access to digital tools across various disease stages.
RESULTS: Its proposed, diversity-focused online awareness hub by the national minority quality forum will create an opportunity for the medical communications industry to create patient-centric decision aids informed by lived experiences. Open-source patient and family support navigator - BlueHQ facilitating secure management of appointment or journal entries for colorectal cancer patients will underscore the importance of human factors engineering studies to make the platform more accessible. The digital advocacy campaign by Offscrip Health and FINN partners will provide an opportunity to harness the power of storytelling to address the crisis of cancer care in rural America. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile screening trucks by Siemens Healthineers in underserved areas will serve as a good case study on partnership for purpose. The real-world insights project on non-small cell lung cancer outcome (NSCLC) disparities by CancerLinQ Discovery® and Owkin will provide RWE players to showcase their advanced predictive analytics capabilities to inform patient-centric immunotherapy research and practice decisions.
CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, CancerX aims to leverage the power of data, technology, and patient-centricity to reduce cancer mortality and demands a collective commitment from health equity researchers, scientific writing professionals, and AI solution providers. Concurrently, similar efforts globally should be encouraged for better results.
