OBJECTIVES: The objective of this research was to evaluate the unit, Turkish Lira (TL) and average price fluctuations for supplements authorized by the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) between 2018 and 2022 to analyze over this time frame and find any notable trends or patterns.

METHODS: This study utilized IQVIA raw data from January 2018 to December 2022, employing Microsoft Office Excel for evaluation. The data analysis was structured around the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical 1 (ATC1) classification system, MoA certified FS in terms of units, TL values, and average prices, while also investigating changes in local and imported products.

RESULTS: The total supplements consumption by units increased from 28,789,699 in 2018 to 67,747,189 in 2022. Imported supplements share decreased from 59.35% to 40.38%, while local supplements share rose from 40.65% to 59.62% in units. ATC Group as A consistently dominated units (50.62% to 55.77%), while other groups remained stable. Total TL values grew significantly from 978,553,274.7 TL in 2018 to 5,968,849,349 TL in 2022. Imported supplements decreased from 66.68% to 48.47%, while local supplements increased from 33.32% to 51.53% in TL. The average price increased from 33.99 TL in 2018 to 88.10 TL in 2022. Imported supplement average price rose from 38.19 TL to 105.77 TL, and local supplement average price increased from 27.86 to 76.14. ATC Groups M and S consistently had the highest average prices, ranging from 76.11 to 203.59 TL and 58.80 to 153.40 TL, respectively, throughout the period.

CONCLUSIONS: These findings shed light on the dynamics of the supplement market in terms of units, TL values, and average prices, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and analyzing such trends for regulatory and market purposes in Turkiye.
