OBJECTIVES: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory and immune-mediated disease that has a strong association with other comorbidities such as anxiety, depression and metabolic syndrome, thus generating strong physical and psychological impacts to those affected. Psoriasis affects 1.3% of Brazilians. The association between psoriasis and work productivity in Brazil is a strong economic burden. The inclusion of productivity losses and gains in cost-effectiveness analyses for medicines is recommended by pharmacoeconomic guidelines. However when use a pathology – “Psoriasis", for instance, the analysis needs more studies. This study aimed to analysis the inclusion of productivity losses in cost-effectiveness analyses in Psoriasis and its innovative treatments.

METHODS: A matching-adjusted indirect comparison (MAIC) was conducted using individual patient data (IPD) based on a survey questionare. A study was carried out using data provided by Psoriasis Brazil (Brazilian Association of Psoriasis, Psoriatic Arthritis and other Chronic Skin Diseases).

RESULTS: The sample with 14.917 validated registrations between the years 2015 and October 2022 , included data regarding gender, 69% are women, affecting work performance in 43% of the patients and regarding work absences in the last year, 30% reported having missed one day or more of work due to the comorbidity. Based on the data analyzed, we observe and reinforcing the existing evidence, that psoriasis can have a great impact on quality of life, work performance, and comorbidities of affected individuals and productivity losses, as consequence.

CONCLUSIONS: The inclusion of productivity losses/gains was shown to have a favorable impact on evaluations for diseases, their impact and method of calculation was often not reported or was unclear, specifically regarding its treatments. Further studies is needed to consider the optimal framework for considering productivity losses/gains in cost-effectiveness analyses and how the costs should be estimated, considering de perspective of RWD.
