OBJECTIVES: The objective of this questionnaire-based survey is to assess the usage of the patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in routine clinical care in India and determine the impact of PRO implementation in outpatient management.

METHODS: The questionnaire covered applicability, rate of practice on a routine basis, decision-making, and impact on outpatient flow using the 5-point likert scale. The questionnaire was disseminated among the clinicians irrespective of their specialization.

RESULTS: The questionnaire was disseminated through social media platforms. Overall, 20 clinicians participated in the survey. The majority of the clinicians (85%) were aware of the term PRO; however, only 55% used it in routine practice. Applicability-based findings suggest that 40% used PRO quite often. 50% of clinicians agreed that PRO aids in outpatient management, while 40% had a neutral response (neither agree nor disagree). The highest voted PRO measure used in clinical care was health-related quality of life (HRQoL) (45%), followed by functional status (20%) and treatment satisfaction (20%).

CONCLUSIONS: Our survey showed that the majority of clinicians were aware of PRO however the rate of use in routine clinical practice was relatively low. The contributing factors to the low rate of usage of PRO might include lack of compliance and time among clinicians, absence of robust health care workflow, and technological support. The use of PRO among clinicians is aiding in treatment decisions for outpatient management which can be further accelerated by improvement in the strategies for the health-care system.
