Oral Nutritional Supplementation in Pediatric Patients Diagnosed With Leukaemia Undergoing Chemotherapy: A Review of the Literature

OBJECTIVES: This review aimed to find a high level of evidence on the impact of oral nutritional supplementation on the nutritional status of the pediatric population with leukaemia undergoing chemotherapy.
METHODS: A systematic search was conducted using the CHOCRANE methodology, taking into account MEDLINE, scopus OVID, TRIP and web of science databases. The ROB2 tool was used to assess the risk of bias of the articles.
RESULTS:
Four studies focusing on different types of oral nutritional supplementation in pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia were included. These studies tended to have a favorable impact on the nutritional status of patients undergoing chemotherapy. In conjunction with improvement of adverse gastrointestinal tract symptoms related to antineoplastic treatment.CONCLUSIONS:
Oral nutritional supplementation could contribute to improve not only the nutritional status of ALL patients on chemotherapy, but also the adverse effects of the gastrointestinal tract.Conference/Value in Health Info
