ABSTRACT WITHDRAWN
OBJECTIVES: The Let’s Control Flu (LCF) was developed to be a user-friendly and interactive digital tool to simulate and assess the impact of public health policies (PHP) in the context of seasonal influenza.
The gamified tool intends to support the decision-making processes of all those implicated in the influenza vaccination, allowing for a simulation and testing of the relative effects of each PHP related to influenza vaccination in each of the considered segments and providing clues for optimization of the work. The result of the actions performed based on this data allows for an increase in influenza VCR. It also supports the World Health Organization’s proposed milestone of having 75% of the European population vaccinated against influenza by 2030.METHODS: The LCF tool is the first quantitative work to apply the Kassianos’ model, with 13 of the proposed 42 PHP (orthogonality criterium) being used in the tool.
The model encompasses five key-target groups: children, elderly, pregnant women, healthcare workers, and high-risk populations. The goal is to obtain data on what may be possible to avert in seven specific outputs: influenza infections, hospitalizations, flu-related GP visits, workdays/productivity loss, flu-related deaths, hospitalizations due to cardiovascular diseases, and deaths due to cardiovascular diseases. The first phase was applied to Sweden and the period covered for simulation is set between 2022 and 2031.RESULTS: The first application of the tool was made successfully. By the end of July 2022, the digital tool will be available to the public in the form of mobile and tablet apps (iOS and Android), as well as on the LCF website.
CONCLUSIONS: It was possible to produce results validated by the Swedish National Advisory Board. A second phase is intended for the application of the LCF tool to four other European countries.
