Objectives: The aim of our research was to examine the effects of the combined use of Schroth therapy and corset therapy on patients' spinal deformities, range of motion, muscle strength, muscle extensibility, and patients' quality of life. Methods: The longitudinal, quantitative, prospective research was conducted from January 2019 to January 2020 at the SpineArt Health Centre in Budapest, Hungary. Juveniles diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis (n=8) participated in the research. Each of them received individual gymnastics, which consisted of Schroth-based exercises and consisted of symmetrical strengthening and stretching exercises, wore a Chêneau corset as an adjunctive therapy from 21 to 23 hours a day. Results: We found significant changes before and after the exercise program as changes in Cobb degrees (Th- pre: 28±13.9; post: 21.13±13.1; p=0.007, Th-L, L- pre: 27±8.5; post: 21.86±11.4; p=0.007), a Scoliometer measurements (Th- pre: 7±4.6, post: 4±2.55, p=0.03;, Th-L, L- pre: 7±3, post: 3.93±2.5; p=0.037), the lateral flexion to the right (pre: 16.06±2.68; post: 18±2.35; p=0.001) and to the left (pre: 15.75±1.83; post: 17.81±2.22; p=0.013). Significant improvements in muscle strength and extensibility were expected to be detected. The Schober I. test alone did not give significant results (pre: 4.49±1.3; post: 5.29±0.73; p=0.197). When evaluating the questionnaire, the degree of pain (pre: 4.26±0.78; post: 4.60±0.47; p=0.033), daily activity (pre: 4.2±0.56; post: 4.6±0.52; p=0.015), self-image (pre: 2.8±0.49; post: 3.8±0.33; p=0.001), and mental health (pre: 3.6±0.56; post: 4.1±0.58; p=0.0002) also showed significant improvements. Conclusion: Based on our results and the international literature the Schroth rehabilitation program, together with corset treatment has a positive effect on patients in spinal deformity, range of movement, muscle strength, extensibility, pain, self-image, daily activity, mental health and their quality of life.
