Objective. According to the WHO, 64 % of people worldwide can use without a prescription for colds and flu systemic antibacterial drugs (ABD) not indicated for such diseases. However, the number of infectious diseases caused by bacterial pathogens, is significant, in Ukraine, up to 7 million such cases are recorded annually. The work aims to study the community consumption of ABD in Ukraine and some neighboring countries to identify trends and make comparisons to make recommendations for antibioticresistance policies.

Methods. The work uses ATC/DDD-methodology in retrospect of the studied years. For ABD community consumption, an international DDDs/1000 inhabitance/day (DID) was calculated. The number of ABD packages sold per year in Ukraine is taken from the Proxima Research/Morion system. Consumption data in Hungary, Poland, and Bulgaria obtained from the ECDC Annual epidemiological report for 2018.

Results. Consumption in Ukraine decreased from 11.6 DID in 2013 to 10.1 DID in 2015 and increased from 11.1 DID in 2016 to 12.5 DID in 2018. In Poland, consumption increased from 20.5 DID in 2013 to 23.0 DID in 2018. In Hungary, consumption increased slightly from 13.4 DID in 2013 to 13.7 DID in 2018, although in 2014 and 2015, there was a peak of consumption (14.0 and 14.6 DID). In Bulgaria, consumption from 2013 to 2018 increased by 2.1 DID from 17.1 to 19.2.

Conclusions. From 1.01 % to 1.25 % of Ukraine's population on a community basis consumed 1 DDD at least one of the ABD daily during the study period. This is less than in neighboring countries (Poland 2.05-2.3%, Hungary 1.34-1.46%, Bulgaria 1.71-2.1%) and mainly does not exaggerate the value of total ABD consumption in EU/EEA countries (2.01-2.15 %). At the same time, there was an increase in ABD community consumption in the studied countries, but in the EU/EEA countries consumption decreased.
