OBJECTIVES: Anemia is widespread among the population of many countries of the world. The appointment of antianemic drugs is the basis of the pharmacotherapy of anemia. The aim of research - assessment of the volume and structure of consumption of antianemic drugs (group B03) in Ukraine in 2017-2019 and a comparison of their consumption in Ukraine with other countries (Norway and Baltic countries - Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia).

METHODS: Assessment of drugs consumption was carried out by ATC/DDD-methodology. International index of DDDs / 1000 inhabitants / day was calculated at carrying out research. Number of drugs packaging, which were sold for a year in Ukraine, was taken from the information system "Pharmexplorer" of Company "Morion" (December, 2017-2019). A DDD of antianemic drugs are taken from the WHO website (http://www.whocc.no/atc_ddd_index/). The drugs consumption level in Baltic countries and Norway was estimated using statistical data of these countries. RESULTS: Consumption volumes of antianemic drugs in Ukraine were as follows: 2017 - 32.74; 2018 - 32.01; 2019 – 30.35. According to the consumption volumes of antianemic drugs countries studied in 2017-2019 can be positioned in the following order: Norway > Ukraine >Estonia> Lithuania > Latvia. During the 2017-2019, the volumes of antianemic drugs consumption has changed: they decreased in Ukraine and Lithuania, increased - in Norway, Estonia, and Latvia. The drugs of vitamin B12 and folic acid (group B03B) were the leaders by consumption among antianemic drugs in Ukraine, Norway, and Estonia in 2017-2019 and in Lithuania in 2019; iron drugs (group B03A) - in Latvia in 2017-2019 and in Lithuania in 2017-2018.

CONCLUSIONS: Approximately from 3.04 to 3.27 % of the Ukraine population every day took 1 DDD of one of antianemic drugs in 2017-2019. Ukraine ranked second place in terms of consumption of antianemic drugs in this period among the countries studied.
