THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A DIGITAL PELVIC FLOOR TRAINING PROGRAM IN THE TREATMENT OF URINARY INCONTINENCE - A REAL WORLD EVALUATION

OBJECTIVES : Urinary Incontinence (UI) can have a tremendous effect on women’s quality of life. During pregnancy and after delivery a high rate of UI may occur. Treatment by means of pelvic floor training is the treatment modality of first choice. Nowadays this can be facilitated by digital apps. Such an app is pelvina©, a digital pelvic floor training program. The aim of the present study was to analyze the effectiveness of pelvina in reducing UI and improving Quality of Life (QoL).

METHODS : We analyzed the effectiveness of pelvina© by the “The Questionnaire for Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis” (QUID) and QoL through SF-6D over the progress of the course.

RESULTS : We included 373 patients in the present study, with a median age of 36 years and 2 deliveries. On baseline, our patient cohort had a median QUID scale of 11 (11 – 15) and an QoL of 20 (17 - 24). The usage of pelvina© resulted in a significant improvement in the urinary incontinence even after the first course module to a QUID of 9 (6 – 13) which further improved to a QUID of 5 (2 – 11) at the end of the curse (p<0.001). The same effect was detectable for the QoL with a significant improvement in the QoL to 22 (19 - 25) after module 3, and a further improvement after the end of the course to 24 (22 - 27; p<0.001)

CONCLUSIONS : The usage of pelvina©, a dedicated pelvic floor trainings app reduced significantly UI and thereby improves the QoL. This clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of this special digital health solution and the great impact it has on the everyday lives of its users.
