OBJECTIVES : The sedentary lifestyle greatly contributes to the impairment of postural muscles, which changes the statics of the body during walking. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of different training programs on increasing hip extension during Terminal Stance of gait. METHODS : The examination was carried out in Zalaegerszeg in 2018. Forty-five people were filtered out from 92 participants with the short version of the IPAQ (International Physical Activity Questionnaire) and the measurement of hand grip strength. 39 people had hip flexion contractures. They were randomly divided into 3 groups: 1stgroup (PNF-stretching + muscle strengthening training): 13 people (11 women, 2 men), age 20.7±0.7 years, 2ndgroup (lumbar motor control training): 13 people (11 women, 2 men), age 22.0±2.2 years, 3rdgroup (complex training): 13 people (10 women, 3 men), age 21.4±1.9 years. Physical examination: height, body weight, hip range of motion, gluteus maximus muscle strength, lumbar motor control and posture and walking test. Intervention: 1 day per week for 10 weeks, daily 45 minutes. Descriptive statistic, correlation and ANOVA analysis, paired t-test and chi2-test were applied using SPSS 20.v. (p<0.05). RESULTS : The range of motion of hip extension was significantly improved during walking in all groups (p<0.001). The hip extension in the 3rdgroup (3.9±1.8°; 17.5±0.9°) was significantly higher than the 2ndgroup (3.7±2.2°; 12.6±1.9°) (p<0.001). The posture most improved in the 3rdgroup (p<0.05) compared to the others. There were no significant relationships among hip extension, gluteus maximus muscle strength and lumbar motor control (p> 0.05). CONCLUSIONS : Complex training is the best way to improve hip extensor movement during Terminal Stance of gait.
