OBJECTIVES :

evaluate the cost-effectiveness of intra-articular hyaluronic acid vs intra-articular corticosteroids vs the standard Egyptian regimen with mild to moderate osteoarthritis

METHODS :

A decision tree model was developed based on the Egyptian clinical practice for 6 months , analysis was derived from FLEXX trials double blind randomized and cost effectiveness of bioengineered HA from published sources . This decision analytical model was constructed to assess the costs and consequences associated with intra- articular hyaluronic acid containing regimen compared with intra -articular corticosteroids or receiving standard therapy ( NSAIDS) from patient persepective .

The utility of the health states was derived using the available published data. In our calculation , Direct medical costs were obtained from the local market prices in 2019 and from the expert orthopedic doctors about the average produre cost . Sensitivity analyses were conducted +20% &-20% .

RESULTS:

for IA CCS total cost of 1ry responsder 2265.1, total cost of 2nd responder 2786.9 and total cost of 2nd non-responder 5619.40 for IA HA the total cost of 1ry responder 4680.5 , total cost of 2nd responder7216.16 and the total cost of 2nd non responder was 8762.63 : IA HA is a cost effective option either vs NSAIDs or vs IA-CCs (ICER are 32081.17113 and 19617.53) respectively

CONCLUSIONS

:
IA-HA in treatment of mild to moderate OA patients is cost –effective option based on who (3GDP/ Capita) .
