DISEASE STATE AWARENESS AND ITS OVERALL IMPACT ON DISEASE MANAGEMENT IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETESE IN QUETTA, PAKISTAN

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to assess the disease state awareness and its impact on well being in patients with Type 2 Diabetes in Quetta, Pakistan.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 250 Type 2 Diabetes patients visiting two tertiary-care, public sector hospital of Quetta, Pakistan. It was a questionnaire based study conducted from July 2025 to December 2025 at two of the tertiary care government hospitals of Quetta city which included, Bolan Medical College Complex Hospital Quetta and Sandeman Provincial Hospital, QuettaThe survey was conducted in patients visiting out-patient departments of the both hospitals, and a total of 250 adults aged 50 to 70 years using a standardized questionnaire to assess their knowledge.
RESULTS: Out of 250 patients, 115 (46 %) of the patients had average knowledge about Type 2 Diabetes while 89 (35.6 %) were considered as poorly aware of their disease state. No patient was considered as well aware in the study. The overall impact of the disease state knowledge on fluctuating blood sugar levels and treatment adherence was considered as variable and directly correlated.
CONCLUSIONS: Although the level of knowledge was average, patients were unsure of the benefits of continuous medication use which resulted in non-compliance to regimens. Increasing knowledge levels about the disease state in Type 2 Diabetes will be a key success factor for effective disease management and is linked to favorable disease management.
