Analysis of Pharmacists' Awareness on Post COVID-19 Conditions and Implementation in Postgraduate Education in Ukraine

OBJECTIVES: According to the WHO data many patients after COVID-19 have post COVID-19 (Long Covid) conditios. Pharmacists must to provide information for patients on symptoms, treatment and rehabilitation as needed. Post COVID-19 conditions (PCCs) are characterized by many symptoms started within 3 months after COVID-19. PCCs can affect an ability to perform work and social activities. The Pharmacist Protocol for PCC care is absent in Ukraine.
METHODS: Analysis of the Order of MoH of Ukraine dated 04/20/2021 № 771 "Protocol for providing rehabilitation care to patients with COVID-19 and convalescents". Used Google forms we created Survey on Pharmacist awareness on the PCCs; evidence-based data on OTC vitamins, minerals, Ginkgo biloba for PCCs rehabilatation, We analysed data of surveyed 587 pharmacists and head, managers of pharmacies from 8 regions of Ukraine in 2023-2025 years.
RESULTS: Our pharmacist's survey showed that the common PCC manifestations were: cognitive impairment (78%), memory loss (34%), depressions (89%), Also were often hypertensive crisis, heart failure: pulmonary shortness of breath. Pharmacists (87%) indicated that these conditions can be related to the war in Ukraine, night bombing of the many cities. Often PCC were^ hair loss, dermatitis, fatigue aches, pains in muscles; headaches; difficulty in concentrating; alterations in taste, impaired sleep. We approved and published Information letter on Information providing for pharmacists about PCCs and evidence-based treatment by OTC and phytomedicines. This letter was approved with Council of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, it was implenmented in pharmacy interships and 6 postgraduate trainings at the Department during September 2024-June 2025 for 765 pharmacists.
CONCLUSIONS: Pharmacists must have sufficient knowledge about the PCCs, evidence-based treatment used OTC, Ginkgo medicines for better care for patients with Long Covid. The Pharmacist protocol for PCC treatment by OTC is needed in Ukraine to ensure equitable access and improving the quality of life of PCC patients.
