HIMSS and ISPOR Partner to Collaborate

ANNOUNCEMENT

Partnership Is Designed to Enhance Member Value for Both Societies

Lawrenceville, NJ, USA—January 10, 2020—ISPOR—the professional society for health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), announced today that it has entered a partnership with the  Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) utilizing HIMSS Partner Innovation Exchange initiative to collaborate on benefits, services, and educational opportunities to enhance value for members of both Societies.

HIMSS is the largest health information technology (IT) membership organization in the world. HIMSS’s mission—to reform the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology—and ISPOR’s mission—to promote HEOR excellence to improve decision making for health globally—complement the collaboration that will further both organizations’ goals and objectives.

As digital continues to play an increasingly important role in health and clearly has synergies with HEOR, ISPOR has worked to expand its efforts to more broadly encompass topics and content related to healthcare IT. Establishing its partnership with HIMSS is a natural progression of this effort. One of the first collaborations between the Societies will involve ISPOR’s participation in a session at the HIMSS and Health 2.0 European Conference 2020 scheduled for 26-28 May 2020 in Helsinki, Finland. ISPOR will provide an overview of the field of HEOR and examine the intersection of HEOR and healthcare data analytics. The session will use real-world examples where HEOR and healthcare data science are working together to solve relevant healthcare issues.

“We are very pleased to announce the ISPOR/HIMSS partnership agreement,” stated ISPOR Chief Executive Officer Nancy S. Berg. “We see the collaboration between our Societies as benefiting both organizations’ members and as a recognition of the integral roles that HEOR and healthcare IT play in improving healthcare for patients everywhere. We look forward to our first collaborative projects to take place in Europe.”

ISPOR and HIMSS are exploring a potential future collaboration on the involvement of HIMSS at ISPOR 2020 scheduled for May 16-20, 2020, in Orlando, FL, USA and ISPOR Europe 2020 scheduled for 14-18 November 2020 in Milan, Italy. ISPOR has a number of ongoing digital health initiatives, including its Machine Learning Methods in HEOR Task Force and its Digital Health Special Interest Group. A number of recent and upcoming ISPOR conferences have centered on digital health, including ISPOR Asia Pacific 2020—“The Next Generation of Healthcare in Asia Pacific: Where Technology Meets Patients to Improve Care,” ISPOR Europe 2019—“Digital Transformation of Healthcare: Changing Roles and Sharing Responsibilities,” and ISPOR 2018—“Real-World Evidence, Digital Health, and the New Landscape for Health Decision Making.”
