Lawrenceville, NJ, USA— September 30,2026—ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) announced details for its ISPOR Europe 2026 conference. The conference is the leading global event in Europe for health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) and is scheduled for 8-11 November in Vienna, Austria with the theme, “Shaping the Future of Access Through Science and Policy.”
Plenary sessions for ISPOR Europe 2026 include the following with speakers added to the online program as they are confirmed:
Plenary 1: The Science of What Matters: Rethinking Value in Healthcare
This session will explore the concept that what we choose to measure in healthcare doesn't just track our priorities, it shapes them. Speakers will examine what may get lost when we optimize for what is easy to quantify rather than what truly matters to patients and health systems. A moderated interview and audience discussion will consider how broader measures of value could be incorporated into policy and health technology assessment (HTA) frameworks, the trade-offs involved, and whether today’s systems are equipped to support a more holistic, outcomes-driven approach to healthcare decision making. This session will be moderated by Sandra Nestler-Parr, MPhil, MSc, PhD of Biocryst Pharmaceuticals.
Plenary 2: We Optimize Treatments—But How Do We Optimize the System?
Day two of the conference opens with an inspiring keynote from Ricardo Baptista Leite, CEO of NOVA Center for Global Health. The plenary session examines how HEOR can shift from product-centric assessment to system-level value creation. Speakers will discuss key barriers to holistic resource allocation including system inertia, political will, professional resistance, and methodological limitations. They will also highlight opportunities to cut low-value activities, optimize care delivery, and redirect resources toward innovations that improve population health and system performance. The moderator for this session is Rasmus Prior Gjesing, MSc with WHO Europe.
Plenary 3: Fit for Purpose: What HEOR Evidence Must Become
The third plenary investigates how the field of HEOR must evolve to deliver new kinds of value to healthcare systems. The discussion will explore AI and advanced analytics' potential to enable faster evidence generation, continuous monitoring, and predictive decision support. The speakers will also discuss the challenges of credibility, rigor, and implementation that HEOR must address to stay relevant in an increasingly connected healthcare landscape. The moderator for this session is Malina Müller, PhD with the WifOR Institute. Speakers include Nick Guldemond, PhD of Leiden University Medical Center, Marie Gerstrøm Kristiansen, MSc of Amgros, and Nirosha Lederer, PhD of AstraZeneca.
The ISPOR Short Course Program is also being offered immediately prior to ISPOR Europe 2026 on 8 November with a wide variety of courses that include cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), health policy, real-world evidence (RWE), economic evaluation, patient-centered research, and more.
