Associate Chief Science Officer
Dr Mitch Higashi serves as associate chief science officer at ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research, where he contributes to developing and deploying the organization's science and content strategies. He collaborates with members, stakeholders, and staff to advance initiatives that increase awareness and application of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) globally.
Prior to joining ISPOR, Dr Higashi held senior positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb (VP HEOR), GE Healthcare, and GlaxoSmithKline. He earned his PhD in health economics and outcomes research from the University of Washington and completed the Advanced Management Program at The Wharton School.
His core expertise includes health outcomes research, real-world evidence, rare diseases, genomics, and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in HEOR. Dr Higashi has co-authored influential reports on AI applications in health technology assessment, including frameworks for prompt engineering and trustworthy AI implementation.
He has been instrumental in developing ISPOR's AI strategy and educational programming, including Spotlight Sessions on prompt engineering techniques for HEOR professionals. His work focuses on leveraging AI to structure unstructured healthcare data and improve patient outcomes through more robust scientific methods.
