OBJECTIVES: This real-world study investigated Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) and Patient-Reported and Experience Measures (PREMS) from employees and family members of a Brazilian oncology hospital who participated in an alternative medicine program, focusing on improving quality of life, mental health, and musculoskeletal changes.
METHODS: Patients who had completed at least one of the therapies proposed by the program, from January to December 2023, were included. Based on a literature review, nine PROMS and four PREMS were selected, which were evaluated on a scale from 0 to 10 points. Patients responded to the questionnaire digitally, via a link sent by message to their cell phones.
RESULTS: A total of 117 patients were identified, of whom 63 (53.8%) responded to the questionnaire. The evaluated PROMS were pain, quality of life, perception of health status, ability to perform daily activities, self-efficacy for pain control, spiritual health, concentration, and social life. The average effectiveness index (0-100) was 65.1 (±13.6). The evaluated PREMS were satisfaction with results (average 7.2), level of confidence in the team (average 8.5), satisfaction with the quality and quantity of information received from the healthcare team (average 7.8), clarity of communication with the healthcare team (average 7.5), and Net Promoter Score (average 8.5).
CONCLUSIONS: The collection of PROMS and PREMS in alternative medicine programs can assist in identifying areas for operational process improvements, as well as evaluating service providers and making therapeutic adjustments, to increase the value generated for patients.
